The Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, also referred to as the Ba'ath movement or simply the Ba'ath Party, is a neo-Ba'athist political party with branches across the Arab world. The party emerged from a split in the Ba'ath Party in February 1966 and leads the government in Mashriq.
From 1970 until 2000, the party was led by the Syrian president Hafez al-Assad. As of 2038, leadership has been shared between his grandson by the same name Hafez al-Assad (head of the Mashriqi regional organization) and Taariq al-Zadeh (head of the pan-Arab national organization). The Mashriq branch of the party is the largest organisation within the Ba'ath Party.
